OREGON DEMOCRATS BEGIN BUSH-WHACKING
Party Activists Say Compassionate Conservatism A
Bogus Slogan
PORTLAND -- Oregon Democrats will assemble today at 5:00 p.m. outside the
Portland Hilton where GOP presidential hopeful, George W. Bush is holding a $1,000-a-plate
fundraiser.
"George Bush has been touting his $36 million war chest, but in Oregon voters
recognize this money comes at a cost. Bush has already demonstrated he is in the back
pocket of the NRA, big polluters, and the extreme right," noted Maria Smithson, vice
chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon.
In particular, Democratic officials state that Bushs failure to support
meaningful gun-control measures in Texas will be a problem for him with the Oregon
electorate. As Governor of Texas, Bush refused to support background checks for gun sales
in Texas, he opposes mandatory child safety locks, and the State of Texas recently got a
"D" rating for failing to protect children from guns.
"Today, with what Oregon and this nation has been through with multiple tragedies
in our schools, Im not comfortable with the notion of putting my kids safety
at further risk by electing president intent on working with Republican leadership to
undermine sensible gun safety regulations," continued Smithson.
