a decade of mirth, mayhem and frivolity!

the pen is mightier than the sword

Mr. Williams has been a writer, author, critic, et al since 1973

fiction by Mr. Wms.

- short stories by Hart Williams -

OH NO! You've just stepped through the Looking Glass ...
... ssalG gnikooL eht hguorht deppets tsuj ev'uoY !ON HO

Long ago, when I was starting out, I read one of those awful WRITER'S DIGEST psych-you-up things (late '76) stating that F. Scott Fitzgerald had collected 122 rejection slips before selling a story. I stopped counting at 125.

All of which proves that I'm persistent. Whether I can write is a horse of a different color. You be "The Judge"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.

The stories below, with the sole exception of "Prologue: Lawrence, Kansas" qualify as "short-shorts" You can certainly read them all in one sitting, although it's not advised.

The Unicorn's Tears
Of course, this being a fantasy, some perceptive folk get the idea that I write sword and dragon stuff.  I don't.
Hercules
What do we ever really know about someone?

And The Boys Became Men

Written long before the OJ trial, but all the more germane for it ...
On The Importance of Controlling Everything
One of those Nineteenth Century Chatauqua pep rally things
Lagan
A sailor who lost a sea
The Trophy
For those who never played in the NFL, or the NBA
Purple Hearts
When a man outlives his times
Prologue: Lawrence, Kansas
A Western Story, based on a forgotten incident of the Civil War
fragment
reconfiguring out what to do here ....

The vorpal blade went snicker snack!
